Road rage accounts conflict

EDISON — No complaints have been filed yet in a road rage incident between two men last week, police said.

Patrolman Robert Dudash said Mohammed Farooq, 34, Woodside, N.Y., and Jeffrey Shourt, 35, Edison, were traveling on Route 1 north around 8 p.m. on Aug. 25 when Shourt said Farooq cut him off.

After exiting, Shourt allegedly followed Farooq to the light in front of the Tano Mall on Amboy Avenue, Dudash said.

Shourt reportedly got out of his vehicle and approached Farooq’s, and alleged that Farooq spit at him, Dudash said.

Farooq denied spitting at Shourt and countered that Shourt slapped him, called him a racial epithet and a "terrorist," Dudash continued, adding that Patrolman Daniel Boslet responded to the scene and explained complaint procedures to both men.

Boslet filed reports indicating possible incidents of assault and harassment as well as a possible bias crime.

"In a case like this, it’s basically he said-he said," Dudash said.

No charges were filed, and as of press time neither party had come to headquarters to sign a complaint, Dudash said. The matter is under investigation.

Neither party could be reached for comment at press time.
