Reader takes issue with J. Aden Lewis column

I refer to Mr. J. Aden Lewis’ article about political signs displayed on front yards.

We have proudly displayed a Kerry/Edwards sign on our lawn for weeks now, and even though the Democrats did not win, we will display it until we feel like taking it down.

I do not display the sign to be unneighborly. Several of my neighbors have Bush/Cheney signs on their lawns, and we all still get along fine. We have had political discussions that went nowhere, but we had them even before the signs went up.

If my elderly Bush/Cheney-supporting neighbors needed help, we would cross the street and lend a hand, and they would do the same for us. Election fever does not turn people into enemies; it sparks lively conversation. If neighbors do not get along, believe me when I say that was the case even before the campaigning began.

As much as I respect Mr. Lewis’ views, he should remember that he has a weekly column to air his opinions. The rest of us have to make do with front yards and car bumpers!
