2 arrested in massage parlor raid
BY BRYAN SABELLA
Staff Writer

METUCHEN — Police charged two Brooklyn, N.Y., women with engaging in the world’s oldest profession after a raid on a borough massage parlor.

Tatiana Kazaeva, 39, and Yelena Zhaglo, 33, were each arrested and charged with prostitution and soliciting prostitution, after officers executed a search warrant at the Health and Wellness Center on Essex Avenue at 6:10 p.m. Jan. 7, Officer David Liantonio said.

Both women were also charged with not having a massage permit, a borough ordinance, he said.

Liantonio said police acted on tips given by confidential informants.

The raid took place after an undercover officer visited the business and confirmed the tips, he said.

Officers confiscated a total of $1,107 in cash, suspected of being proceeds from prostitution. Some of the cash was found inside a locked desk drawer next to seven condoms, Liantonio said.

Other cash was found in personal items belonging to Kazaeva and Zhaglo, and 17 more condoms were found in Zhaglo’s pocketbook, he said.

The owner of the business, Anna E. Shavulskaya, 30, also of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with the permit violation, but not the prostitution charges when she came to headquarters to pick up Kazaeva and Zhaglo, who had each posted the 10-percent cash option on their $2,500 bail, Liantonio said.

Shavulskaya was released on her own recognizance, he said.

Liantonio said that wasn’t the end of it, however.

Grigori P. Nichamov, 43, Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he came to headquarters to pick up the three women.

Nichamov’s 2004 Volkswagen Beetle was observed swerving between lanes and striking the curb repeatedly after he left headquarters, according to police. He was stopped at New Durham Road and Oliver Street, Liantonio said.
