Metuchen grapplers are a busy group

The Edison Eagles at the Stelton Rec Center hosted the Metuchen Grapplers last Friday night.

In the seventh- and eighth-grade meet the Eagles manhandled the Grapplers, winning 67-18.

At 70 pounds, Scott Wade (Edison) won by forfeit. Rich Lewis (E) shut out Nick Revano (Metuchen) 9-0, Dylan Messina (M) beat Brandon Cinquergrana (Ed) 7-2 in the 80-pound weight class. Anthony Peterson (E) pinned Kevin Sullivan (M) in the third period. At 90 and 95 pounds, Edison took forfeit points. Lucas D’Alfonsi (M) fell in the second round of a tough match against Artie Pastrana (Ed), while James Rasmussen (M) defeated Anthony Calello (E) 7-3 at 105 pounds. Joe Vaccaro (E) took down Robert Parnell (M) halfway into the first period, with 115-pound Rich Butkus (E) defeating Steven Donahue (M) 7-2. Mickey Ladines (M) handled David Gonzalez (E) pinning him in the second period. Louis Middleton, Bryan Duran and heavyweight Mike Rodriguez all scored pin points for the Eagles. At 139 pounds, Joe Pacifico (E) lost to Christian LeCompte (M) by DQ.

At the C team level, 47-pound Mike Calello pinned Kane Weber (M) in the third period. John Schleck (M) defeated Kirk Ianni (E) 10-1, while Alex Nadik (Ed) pinned Jacob Kay (M). Jake Butkus (E) pinned Daniel Lackland (M) and Jonathan Hillman (E) defeated Kyle Fiske (M) 14-2. Chris Kay (M) won his match against Kevin Cavaski (E) 12-3.

The best match of the evening was between Matthew D’Alfonsi (M) and Mike Crowley (E), who at 60 pounds fought a long, hard and close match until the very end, with D’Alfonsi squeaking out a 4-2 win.

The Grapplers traveled to Clark on Saturday where the sixth grade & under B team lost 15-64.

Dylan Messina (80) pinned his opponent in the third period. Kevin Coleman (63) won his match 6-2, with heavyweight Dorian Miller also scoring a win. In their meet against a combined Clark/Woodbridge squad the seventh & eighth grade team fell 28-54.

Lucas D’Alfonsi (100) and Robert Parnell (110) both earned first-period pins. Jake Freed (80), James Rasmussen (105) and Dorian Miller (HWT) all won their matches.

In C team matches, Jack Honey (47) and Matthew D’Alfonsi (63) earned pins, while Anthony Rosamilia (60), Matt Volpe (60) and Jonathan Hoffman (63) all won their matches.
