Library to present Celtic music program March 4

The Friends of the Edison Public Library is sponsoring a program of Celtic music at 2 p.m. March 4 at the Edison Main Library, 340 Plainfield Ave. Drawing on the musical heritage of Ireland, Scotland and America, presenter Mary Kay Mann will sing and play the Celtic harp, flute and tin whistle (pennywhistle).

High school committee plans annual card party

The Bishop George Ahr High School PTG Card Party Committee will host its 27th annual card party — whose theme this year is “Hawaiian Nights” — on Feb. 24 at the high school, 1 Tingley Lane, Edison. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be raffles and refreshments. Reservations are required by Feb. 21. For ticket information, call Linda Lordi at (732) 548-6612.

Library offering story time for preschoolers

The children’s department of the Edison Public Library has begun another four-week story time program for preschoolers ages 3-5. “Preschool Story Time” features stories, music, finger plays, simple crafts and films based on different topics each week. Registration is limited and open to Edison residents only. Remaining programs are as follows:

• Edison Main Library, 340 Plainfield Ave. — 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Jan. 31-Feb. 14 (every Tuesday);

• North Edison Branch, 777 Grove Ave. — 1:30 p.m. Jan. 31-Feb. 14, and 10:30 a.m. Feb. 2-16 (every Thursday);

• Clara Barton Branch, 141 Hoover Ave. — 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Feb. 1-15 (every Wednesday).

Library announces names of 2006 elected officers

The Metuchen Public Library Board of Trustees held its reorganization meeting Jan. 3 and elected the following officers: Christopher Blejwas, president; Beverly Passantino, vice president; Marian O’Connell, secretary; and Barbara Kieser, treasurer. The fifth trustee is Bernard Ackerman. Borough Councilwoman Catherine Totin will serve as liaison to the library board for 2006. Regular meetings, which are all open to the public under the Open Public Meetings Act, will be held at the library, 480 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 7, Sept. 6, Oct. 3, Nov. 14 and Dec. 6. Although the library is usually closed Wednesday evenings, it will be open strictly for meetings scheduled on those days. Call the library at (732) 632-8526 or e-mailing mkokola@lmxac.org.

Home-buying seminar set for Feb. 25 at library

A free home-buyers seminar will be held Feb. 25, 10 a.m. to noon at the Main branch of the Woodbridge Public Library, George Frederick Plaza.

This educational seminar teaches prospective homeowners how to qualify to buy a home.
