Women's Club collecting items for animal drive
The Metuchen-Edison Women's Club will continue its spring drive for animals throughout April to benefit the Plainfield Area Humane Society, located at 75 Rock Ave. in Plainfield. Items needed include food for cats and dogs (both dry and wet); guinea pig and rabbit food; cat litter; paper towels; old blankets and clean towels; and cleaning supplies such as bleach and dish/laundry detergents. Church announces Easter services April 13 and 16 Oak Tree Presbyterian Church, 445 Plainfield Road, Edison, will hold Maundy Thursday Soup Supper at 6:30 p.m. and Communion Service at 7:30 p.m. on April 13. Easter services will be at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 16. Improvement League to host High Tea May 6 The Borough Improvement League (BIL) will hold its annual High Tea from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 at the Old Franklin Schoolhouse, 491 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen. Funeral home providing free bereavement support The Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen, continues to offer a bereavement support group. Ongoing sessions are held every Wednesday and Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon, as well as Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. The program, which is free of charge, takes place at the funeral home. Carol Burner, a certified grief recovery specialist, facilitates the program. A professional with a master's degree in counseling from Seton Hall University, South Orange, she has spent the past eight years offering individual and group counseling to clients suffering from significant and tragic losses. 'Eggciting' hunt on tap at school field April 15 The Metuchen Recreation Commission is sponsoring its annual spring Egg Hunt at 9 a.m. April 15 at the Edgar School field on Brunswick Avenue. Youngsters should bring a basket or bag to collect their eggs. Prizes will be awarded for finding certain eggs. In the event of inclement weather, the hunt will be canceled. Police department needs more crossing guards The Metuchen Police Department is looking for residents who are interested in becoming crossing guards. Substitute positions are available. Applicants must have their own transportation. Police department needs part-time dispatchers The Metuchen Police Department is looking for part-time police dispatchers.
