Why did the lights go out in Edison, New Jersey?

If Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, only knew what a joke Edison, New Jersey, really is, he'd be shocked. He's probably rolling over in his grave.

The Edison school board voted again to turn out the lights on high school sport night games. How lame! I guess they don't care that all the college scouts visit these evening games to recruit players for their college teams.

State can't afford it? Security reasons? Local police officers have offered to supply security at the night games for free. But this should not be necessary in a city where real estate taxes are the highest in the state of New Jersey.

Money Magazine rated Edison one of the best places to live in the country. Can't take a few disorderly persons at the games? Afraid of lawsuits? Just keep preventing kids from being kids by taking away all the activities that they really enjoy, and you'll have even more problems on your hands.

Shame on you, Board of Education members! Obviously, you don't have kids on the teams.
