Zoners approve 12 new homes
EDISON - The Zoning Board recently unanimously approved construction of 12 new single-family homes on property surrounded by Ashley, Altamount and Miko Roads.
The application had been presented at a previous meeting. The final vote was taken at the board's Oct. 31 meeting.
The 4.67-acre property currently contains three one-story and three two-story homes. The developer, Better View Homes, Inc., agreed to demolish one of the existing homes, while the other five will remain on the property.
Board member Robert Karabinchak listed a number of stipulations that the developer agreed to adhere to.
"The applicant will supply a detailed construction schedule," Karabinchak said. "The applicant must add more trees to meet Edison ordinances, which I think he did already. The applicant also agrees to not waive curbs and sidewalks in this development and shall pay for all new sanitary tie-ins."
Two large wooded areas currently exist in between Ashley, Altamount and Miko Roads.
The 12 new homes will be constructed in these areas. Miko Road will be extended further north, according to the township planner's report.
A new cul-de-sac perpendicular to the newly-extended Miko Road will also be constructed.
The Zoning Board will continue to hold complete jurisdiction on the site for any applications for it hereafter, Karabinchak said.
"Also, the ninth house will be labeled as an affordable housing unit," he said.
