Commuters give wacky answers to win prizes
Online reality show wants to know people's strangest penchants

WOODBRIDGE - What is your ultimate eye candy?

The Ultimate Eye Candy Street Team wants to know when they travel across the state to train stations, malls and vibrant downtowns, for their online social networking community of New Jersey residents.

This particular cold morning on Jan. 19, Eye Candy Street Team One is inside the ticket booth at the Metropark train station in Iselin approaching anybody who wants to divulge his or her ultimate eye candy for a chance to win a 46-inch Sony LCD HDTV worth approximately $3,000.

"Our grand finale will be on Feb. 15," said Penny Paul, who is the publicist for the Ultimate Eye Candy Web site. "The reality online show will be a mix between 'America's Funniest Home Videos' and 'American Idol' and a touch of 'Survivor' without going to an island. We encourage people to vote for the person who they think has the best eye candy answer, and for friends and family to vote for their friends and family. The voters have a chance to win a Video iPod just for voting."

Among the three celebrity judges who will pick the winning answer is Stephanie LaGrossa, the popular personality from the CBS hit TV show "Survivor" and a New Jersey resident.

The two street teams average 10 to 15 people participating per event.

The team also provides candy bars that resemble a TV remote control and their Ultimate Eye Candy business card, letting people know that the Ultimate Eye Candy is coming.

"We approach anybody and everybody that we can," said Pam McGarvey, the outdoor manager for team one. "We travel across New Jersey, but a New Jersey resident doesn't necessarily have to win. Participants have to be 18 years old and over."

McGarvey's team consists of her two assistants, Chadwick Rawlings and Rich Kaht, and her cameraman Al Pollack.

"We only have two teams, which consist of four people, so we have eight people out there," said McGarvey.

The street teams have heard wacky answers from the various places they have traveled, which has included Ramsey, Morristown, Red Bank, Bound Brook, Somerset, Princeton Junction, Helmetta and Rockaway.

"We have heard the wackiest answers from every age," said McGarvey. "We had a man - Thomas McGrath - when we went to the Red Bank train station say his ultimate eye candy was when his wife licks a chocolate sundae off his bald head. Many say family, children, celebrities, cars, sports teams, places and body parts. We had two men fight over who the hottest celebrity female was, Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba."

The street teams themselves don't know what to expect in the end for the big finale in February.

"We were just told to come out, drive the Eye Candy truck, and ask people what their ultimate eye candy was," said McGarvey. "We'll be waiting to see what happens, just like the people."

The eye candy teams began hitting the streets on Jan. 9 and will be out on the streets until Jan. 31. People can also submit their ultimate eye candy online from their own home on the Web site at www.ultimateeyecandy.com.

Upcoming events include eye teams at the Courtyard Marriott, 3815 Route 1 in Princeton, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 27; and the Courtyard Marriott, 245 Half Mile Road in Red Bank, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 28.
