Man found shot on Rte. 1 still unidentified
Police seek to ID man, who is in critical condition
BY KATHY CHANG
Staff Writer

WOODBRIDGE - Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a black man who was found on the shoulder of Route 1 north near the entrance to the Garden State Parkway on May 12, with a gunshot wound.

Woodbridge police received a call from the New Jersey State Police about a possible pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle and found the man, who was covered in blood, at 3:58 a.m., police said.

The victim is a black male believed to be in his mid 20s, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build and with short black hair. He was wearing a pair of black Coogi Heritage jeans, no shirt, and size 8 tan-colored Timberland work boots, police said.

The man was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and while he was being treated at the hospital, it was discovered that he had been shot. He is in critical but stable condition, police said.

The man carried no identification; however, he bears a tattoo on his left forearm described as the word "DAYSHA," police said.

There is no other information available at this time, and the police department is asking that anyone having information on the identity of this man or the shooting, to call the police department. The lead investigator is Detective James Souza, who can be reached at (732) 634-7700, ext. 7316. All information will remain confidential.
