Sharp-eyed neighbor foils alleged robbery

METUCHEN - A neighbor's keen observation led to the arrest of a 51-year-old Roselle man last week, police said.

Police arrested and charged Mark Banks for burglary and theft to a Pleasant Place residence at 12:14 p.m. on May 17, police said.

A neighbor called police when he noticed the door open to the home and then saw the suspect run from the home, police said.

Patrolman Robert Belluscio responded to the scene and chased the suspect on the Amtrak access road near the residence and caught the suspect, police said.

Police found (Finland) foreign currency on the suspect that was taken from the Pleasant Place residence, police said.

Banks was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick and held on $25,000 bail with no 10 percent option, police said.
