Police impersonators sought in bank robbery
Police are seeking two black males who robbed bank on Saturday
BY KATHY CHANG Staff Writer

METUCHEN - Police are looking for two black males who impersonated police officers and robbed the Wachovia Bank on Middlesex Avenue over the weekend.

The robbery occurred at 9:58 a.m. Sept. 15, police said.

Police were told that the two black males were wearing shoulderlength blond wigs - one curly and one straight - and had handkerchiefs over their mouths.

"One suspect had a handgun and one had an automatic, which was similar to an Uzi," said Patrolman David Liantonio.

As the suspects instructed the 10 employees and customers to get down on the floor, one suspect jumped over the counter and stole an unknown amount of cash from three teller drawers, police said.

The suspects were seen leaving in a white Honda, police said.

"No one was injured," said Liantonio.

The robbery is under investigation by the FBI and the Metuchen Police Department.

Anyone who has additional information is urged to call the Metuchen Police Department at (732) 632-8500 and ask for the Detective Bureau.
