Metuchen will post council meetings online
BY JAY BODAS Correspondent

METUCHEN - Don't have time to attend Borough Council meetings in person?

Then watch them over the Internet at your leisure.

"There are new additions to the borough Web site, featuring videotapes of the council meetings," said Borough Administrator William Boerth at the Nov. 19 meeting of the Borough Council. "We are working out the details on how quickly we can get them up, but we are hoping they are the same night or the next day."

Internet users can access video of the Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 council meetings off a prominent link on Metuchen's Web site at www.metuchennj.org.

One of the main reasons that videos of council meetings have been posted on the Web is because many borough residents do not use cable television, said Mayor Edmund O'Brien after the meeting.

"Our concern was that since many residents subscribe to satellite TV, they are not able to view those meetings," O'Brien said. "But now, as long as they have Internet access, they can access the Borough Council."

O'Brien credited Rich Desimone of Metuchen TV (METV) for overseeing the improvement to the Web site. Desimone could not be reached for comment in time for this story.

The Web site now also allows visitors to register their e-mails to get borough-related updates sent to them.

"You can sign up to get notices sent to your computer either at home or at work," Boerth said at the meeting. "Just follow the directions. Anytime there is anything new posted on the site, you will get an e-mail."
