Township man arrested for allegedly assaulting police
BY CHRIS GAETANO Staff Writer

EDISON - A township man was arrested after allegedly assaulting two Edison police officers responding to a disorderly conduct call at 1604 Route 27. Sgt. Robert Dudash, public information officer for the department, said that theman, John James Faracy, 36, was "clearly intoxicated" when police arrived at 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 5.

Dudash said police were dispatched in response to a dispute among three women and a man (Faracy) in a parking lot. Police reported that Faracy was belligerent and began cursing at the officers before running into the street on Route 27, still cursing. When officers attempted to talk him out of the roadway, the man allegedly charged them and began punching them.

"Astruggle ensue[d]," said Dudash.

Eventually, police were able to wrestle him to the ground, though he allegedly continued to punch, kick and spit the whole time. Officers eventually managed to handcuff him, however.

Faracywas chargedwith disorderly conduct, two counts of aggravated assault on police officers, and two counts of resisting arrest. Bail was set at $25,000.He was sent to theMiddlesex CountyAdult CorrectionCenter, North Brunswick.

During the melee, two officers received minor injuries. Patrolman Christian Pedana sustained an injured right thumb and laceration on his right hand as a result of the struggle. The second officer, Patrolman Brian Freund, sustained a laceration on his right knee. Both officers, in the course of the struggle, also tore their uniforms.
