Edison man assaulted after confronting three burglars
BY CHRIS GAETANO Staff Writer

EDISON - A township man was assaulted after walking in on three men burglarizing his home.

The victim, 31, was returning home to his second-floor apartment on March 14 around 12:45 p.m., when he saw three men leaving his apartment after they had apparently burglarized it. He confronted them, and one of the suspects pulled out a screwdriver and swung it at him, but missed. The suspect then dropped the screwdriver and simply punched the victim in the face, resulting in a severe nosebleed. The blow knocked the victim down, at which point the suspects picked up their bag with the stolen goods inside and ran away.

The victim got up and began chasing the three men around the apartment complex, and observed the trio get into a gold or brown four-door vehicle that drove away on Woodbridge Avenue heading east.

Lt. Joseph Shannon, Edison Police Department public information officer, described the three suspects as Hispanic males. One was about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 25 to 30 years of age, weighing about 160 pounds, with short, dark hair and a goatee. Shannon said this man was reported to have spoken with an accent. The other suspect, the one who punched the victim, was said to be about 6 feet tall, 25 to 30 years old, also weighing about 160 pounds, wearing a baseball cap. The third was described as a Hispanic male about 20 years old, with no other description such as height or weight. The three are still at large.

The suspects are said to have stolen about $2,000 worth of goods, including a laptop computer. The victim was treated by Edison first aid workers for his severe nosebleed but did not need to go to a hospital.
