Police report two robberies on pizza delivery workers BY CHRIS GAETANO Staff Writer
EDISON- Edison police reported two incidents of pizza deliverymen being robbed or assaulted over the course of a single week. Both incidents involved employees of Dominick's Pizzeria on Woodbridge Avenue.
One man in Edison was robbed while delivering pizzas on Monday.
According to Lt. Joseph Shannon, police public information officer, around 10:20 p.m. an 18-year-old deliveryman was sent to Mill Road for a delivery. As he was attempting to make the delivery, three men approached him, and one of the suspects took out a large knife and pointed it at the deliveryman's chest and demanded money, according to police. The victim handed over all the delivery money, of an unknown amount, said Shannon, as well as $50 of his own cash.
The three suspects then went into the delivery vehicle and took two orders of food, valued at about $70. The victim told police that he then saw the suspects get into a black NissanAltima and drive off in the direction of Old Post Road.
The suspects were described as three black men. The one with the knife was wearing a green bandanna over his face and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. A second suspect was described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The third was described as wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The incident is under investigation. Those with information on the matter should contact Detective Sgt. Wheeler at (732) 248-7588.
Shannon also reported a second, similar incident.
OnApril 10, a 31-year-old deliveryman was sent to Building 10 on Horizon Drive around 9:20 p.m. When he arrived at the address, he rang the doorbell several times, but no one answered. The victim said he then heard someone running toward him. Looking over his shoulder, he spotted a 6-foot-tall Hispanic man of "stocky" build, wearing a red shirt, sunglasses, and with a white bandanna across his face. He may also have been wearing a hat.
The man punched the victim on the left side of his face, knocking him to the ground. While down, the man rifled through the victim's pants and shirt pockets as the victim was fighting to get back on his feet. After some time, it became apparent that the victim didn't have anything of value on him, and so no property was taken from the victim at that point. But once the victim managed to get back on his feet, he saw the man running toward his (the victim's) car, a 2003 Kia Spectra, and the man got in and drove off. The car was recovered about 15 minutes later on Sunrise Drive, a nearby street.
The matter is being investigated by Detective Brian Parente. Anyone with information should call (732) 248-7527.
