Men used shipping entrance to rob store at Menlo mall

EDISON - Police reported an armed robbery at the Menlo Park Mall on April 14.

According to Lt. Joseph Shannon, Edison Police public information officer, around 8 a.m. five employees at Steve & Barry's were waiting for a clothing delivery to arrive. The delivery entrance at the back of the store was open, waiting for the truck, but shipment was late.

The manager told the stockers to just close the door until the truck got there. While one of them was doing so, one of the suspects grabbed the door and held it open with one hand while pointing a gun at the stock person with the other.

The suspect, armed with what was described as a silver semiautomatic handgun, told the employee to turn around.Asecond suspect, also armed with a silver semiautomatic handgun, then entered the store as well. Together, the two suspects marched the employee through the hall and into the store, where the other employees were. The employees were told to empty their pockets, which they did, and to give the suspects their cash, iPods and cell phones. The suspects then told the manager to go into the back room and open the safe, and they reached in and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

The two suspects then ran out of the store through the rear corridor, and escaped.

The suspects were described as two black men, medium complexion, in their mid-20s, both about 5 feet 10 inches tall. Both were dressed in black hooded sweatshirts and pants and were wearing black ski masks. One was also described as wearing red and gray sneakers.

The matter is under investigation by police. Anyone with information should call Detective Alan Sciarrillo at (732) 248-7561.
