Taxpayer frightened by proposal
I found it very interesting when reading about the redevelopment of the 44-acre parcel of land near the Edison train station by the developer Steve Goldin and being pushed by Mayor Jun Choi, but as a taxpayer in Edison, I also found it very frightening.

It is unheard of, a developer spending $2 million to convince the people of Edison to accept this proposal; he must think it is a done deal. Steve Goldin and Mayor Jun Choi must be hoping to get a great return from this investment. This plan wants to rezone property that is slated for warehouses that bring in tax dollars with hardly any cost to the taxpayers. Instead, they want to build almost 800 housing units, which will add 1,200 more children to our already overcrowded school system. Then, they want the township to issue $53.5 million in bonds that the taxpayers will have to foot the bill for the next 35 years.

Goldin and Mayor Choi also want to use the tax dollars collected from the housing units to pay for the improvement of the infrastructure of Plainfield Avenue. The mayor and Goldin must think the Edison residents are stupid or asleep to fall for this proposal. We are facing an economic recession where people can't pay for their taxes, heating bill, gasoline and mortgages. On top of this, they want to burden us with $11 million to keep the children in the school system because of the 800 housing units and possibly the cost of building a new school.

Let NJ Transit build the train station at their cost and have land to build warehouses as they had planned two years ago before Mayor Jun Choi stopped them. This will bring in tax dollars and less traffic on a congested Plainfield Avenue. Steve Goldin, go back home. Mayor Choi, you accused former Mayor Spadaro of building 700 housing units in 12 years and now you want to build 800 units

at one time.
