Many issues more important than 'sex'
I was glad to see so many people respond over Mr. [Taj] Ahmad's comments ("Take the 'sex' out of 'Middlesex County,' " letter, Edison Metuchen Sentinel, April 30).

I used to work with Mr. [Joel] Henkin, and I thought his comments just nailed it. ("Coda" column by Greg Bean, Edison Metuchen Sentinel, May 21)

It's people like Mr. Ahmad and those freaking out over Rachael Ray's Dunkin' Donuts ad (the one with the "kaffiyeh" in it) who need to realize there are more important issues in New Jersey - and the world, for that matter - high taxes, $5 gas on the horizon, government corruption and waste, a war in Iraq.

When I saw that the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety is granting $4,000 to Metuchen (my town) for a "Click It or Ticket" program ("Metuchen Police receive Click It or Ticket grant" Sentinel, May 21), I was more outraged by that than I ever could be by "Middlesex." If that's not government waste at its best, then what is? The law is the law. People need to live by it. Police need to enforce it at all times. We shouldn't need a $4K grant for this, and it's a grant that only keeps enforcement going until June 1. What happens after June 1? No one cares anymore?

That $4,000 could have been better spent elsewhere ... like keeping drugs out of Metuchen ("Metuchen women arrested on marijuana charges" Sentinel, May 21). I'd rather pay the police to patrol the school zone she was arrested in more than paying them to make sure a soccer mom buckles up.
