Suspect pleads not guilty in death of S.R. man
One day after the shooting death of a 19-year-old South River man, authorities arrested the suspect they believe opened fire on him in New Brunswick recently.

Two men were struck by gunfire in the incident that occurred at the corner of Sandford Street and Nichol Avenue at 10:18 p.m. June 2 - Devin Thompson, a 19-yearold man of Main Street in South River, and Christopher Whittsett. The latter victim was treated and released from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, after sustaining one gunshot wound to the back. Thompson died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower back.

Police arrested and charged Davon Parker, 20, of Short Street in Edison, with murder and attempted murder on June 3, according to a press release issued by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. Parker pleaded not guilty and N.J. Superior Court Judge James F. Mulvihill, New Brunswick, set Parker's bail at $1 million.

The motive of the shooting, which occurred outside of Recreation Park near the Cook-Douglass Campus of Rutgers University, is still under investigation.
