Councilwoman grateful for grassroot efforts He questioned why parking would be so far from the station; safety of commuters, especially during winter months walking in foul weather and darkness; increase in rates from $45 per month to $60 for residents and $75 for nonresidents, and why the mayor of Edison was handing out these fliers at the train station? Craig asked what happened to the parking lot NJ Transit had proposed for the site. He contacted NJ Transit and was told via e-mail the project was put on hold because the mayor of Edison said he was working with a developer and parking would be part of the project. What wasn't said was 783 residential units were part of this deal and the developer wanted township taxpayers to pay for the infrastructure needed to support his project. Residents joined forces with Edison Community Association. They held meetings, distributed and posted fliers in area businesses and neighborhoods, sent emails and made phone calls to defeat this proposed Edison Exchange Transit Village. I commend everyone who worked so diligently on this grassroots effort. But the true hero is Craig Prupis. Without bringing this before the public, without his tenacity to investigate, we would be facing the prospect of increased traffic and a $53.5 million bond for road improvements. NJ Transit is moving forward with the promised parking lot. Thank you, NJ Transit and Craig Prupis, for your efforts on behalf of the residents of Edison! |
