Charles A. Welsh Jr. Mr. Welsh, 96, died June 23, 2008, at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, Menlo Park. He was born in Somerset, Pa. He began a journalism career in 1929 and joined the Associated Press in Philadelphia in 1942 and retired from the AP Central Desk in New York City in 1977. His served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS San Francisco in the Pacific theater during WWII. Mr. Welsh and his wife were longtime residents of Metuchen, where he was an active member of St. Francis Cathedral, serving as lecturer and commentator. He was a member of the American Legion Fugel Hummer Post 65. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Dresser Welsh, sisters Eleanor McGeehan, Mary Lyons and Jean Neiderheiser, son-in-law John Bradley, and a grandson, John Bradley. Survivors include his son, Charles A. Welsh III and his wife, Joan, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth Bradley of Metuchen; a son, Francis Welsh, and his wife, Maria, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Lutz of Brick; 14 grandchildren, and numerous greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. |
