Leitner, Greene finish grid careers at Snapple Bowl

With Metuchen graduate and arguably the state's best wide receiver Dejuan Miller already working out with his new team, the Oklahoma Sooners, the spotlight was on Metuchen's Charlie Greene and Jordan Leitner at last week's Snapple Bowl.

Snapple Bowl XV pitted the Middlesex County All-Stars against Union County's All-Stars in the annual affair. The charity event raises money for the Lakeview School for Cerebral Palsy in Edison and the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and Fanwood. For the third straight year, Middlesex County walked away with the victory. This year's game ended in a 14-7 score.

"Jordan and Charlie were very excited to play in this year's game," Metuchen head coach Bob Ulmer said. "Both were leaders on the field and extremely competitive players."

Leitner, a three-year starter, finished his playing career as Metuchen's all-time leading passer with 3,599 yards and 41 touchdowns. In his senior season, Leitner threw for 1,447 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"Jordan ran our offense very well and had a number of outstanding games," Ulmer said. "He threw for 200 yards in a game against South River his junior year and was always a second or third team All-Area player."

Greene took advantage of the attention opposing teams gave Miller all last season to put together a solid season as the team's No. 2 leading receiver.

"Charlie was always second to Dejuan, but he quietly did his job and put up some big numbers," Ulmer said. "With everybody double- and triple-teaming Dejuan, Charlie got man-to-man coverage and ran some excellent routes. He had extremely good hands."

Greene caught 45 passes for 724 yards last season and scored five touchdowns in his final two seasons with the Bulldogs.

"Charlie had monster games against Roselle Park and Middlesex," Ulmer said. "In fact, Jordan Leitner also had a big game last year against Middlesex."

Both Leitner and Greene are expected to attend Middlesex County College this fall with plans of transferring next autumn. Leitner has garnered interest from the football programs at Wagner, Rowan, and Delaware Valley.

"I think both guys will probably play college football," Ulmer said. "They will probably have to wait until next season."

While he was unable to play at this year's Snapple Bowl due to his obligation to the Oklahoma Sooners, Miller was on the roster for the New Jersey All-Stars in this year's Governor's Bowl.

"Unfortunately, Dejuan pulled a hamstring during the spring track season and could not play," Ulmer said. "He's already working hard at Oklahoma, lifting well, and is very excited to be playing Division I football."
