Choi has been an expensive mayor What has become obvious is that the mayor has been running the town with perks equivalent to that of a fortune 500 company. Appointees of the mayor, regardless of how far they live from Edison, can count on a township car for their personal use. It's not unusual for a mayor's appointment to travel to and from work roundtrip over 120 miles per day. The gas, the tolls, the maintenance, and insurance come at a complete cost to Edison residents. Even more, there are no logs available to chart the use of the vehicles. The majority of those who are recipients of the mayor's generosity don't even respond to township emergencies. When an Edison resident asked at a council meeting of the cost of the E-ZPass, Township Administrator Anthony Cancro replied that it is a government EZPass at no cost to the taxpayers. In reality, E-ZPass is governed according to the laws of the state of New Jersey, not the Edison mayor. As a government-assigned pass, the use of it on a personal basis such as driving to and from work is strictly forbidden.
Another revelation at the same meeting was that township cars as an employee benefit do not appear on the W2 forms of the individuals as a benefit per IRS regulations. Mayor Choi and his staff are not above any law, state or federal. The mayor again and again displays that he is either astoundedly ignorant or completely misinformed by his over paid staff. |
